Summer Update from the Innkeepers
We're trying something new ~ using email instead of the traditional newsletter. We hope it will save you "junk" mail and you can read it at your leisure! More importantly, we hope to be timely (well, maybe with the next one!) on things of interest to you. We will post this on our website for your convenience, too, along with the usual new recipe.
Please let us know what you think of this new format. We look forward to seeing you here on your next visit to Weston. Until then, may you and your families be well and truly blessed.
Colonial House Update
As we write we are waiting on a heat wave ... this makes it difficult to recount our gloriously snowy winter . . . Winter did come, albeit late.
Life here at the Inn is as busy as ever. Alexis attended preschool 2 mornings a week and it gave Kim some free time to get something accomplished! Our little girl turns three next Sunday - how quickly she is growing and learning. We cannot imagine life without her enthusiasm and effervescence!
On a sad note, Jeff's mom, Norma, passed away unexpectedly on 2/28/07. Though, we miss her terribly, we are comforted in knowing that she is watching us from heaven and smiling at Alexis' antics. All of our other family members are really well. John and Betty just get busier and busier with Prison Ministry . . . we often wonder what they will do when they "really" retire. John hit the big "7-0" this year; Betty's not there yet, but their 50th wedding anniversary comes next Spring! Yeah!
Our Quilter's Weekend in April was lots of fun. 6 quilters worked on the Pineapple quilt. We have one more Nov. 2-4 which is on making memory quilts with pictures. There is still space for 3 more quilters. Call Kim for details.
We have another recipe for our growing collection. A family favorite and super simple (Kim's favorite kind), this stuffed mushroom recipe is a crowed pleaser.
In closing, we hope to see you in the upcoming months. We pray your summer is restful, not too hot, and not too stressful - if it is, come our way!
With prayers for your continued blessings,
Jeff, Kim and Alexis
Weston Update
Even in our little hamlet, things change - we always hope for the better! Here's some of the news:
There's a new Historic Preservation sign posted near the museum to commemorate the history of Weston. Did you know that the village green was once a frog pond? That Weston was originally named the West Town of Andover? Come see our sign, read about the history and visit our museums to learn more.
The Mill Museum is now grinding grain again on the old millstone. In operation during the summer on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The Vermont Country Store and Bryant House are now open on Sundays. You have a little more time to browse at VCS and still have lunch in the historic Bryant House!
New Galleries: With the change in ownership of The Todd Gallery, the name has changed to The West River Gallery by owner, Cindy Jones. Featuring fine, regional art, Cindy has added a ceramic studio which the public is welcome to visit. The Village Green Gallery opened across from The Weston Village Store and offers photography, blown glass, woodwork and jewelry by Vermont artisans. Check them out!

Fun for the kids . . . .
There's more to do in our area for the kids than you might remember . . .there's The Green Mountain Railway that departs from Chester or Manchester for a scenic train ride. A favorite is the VINS Nature Center at Quechee Gorge . . . with a walking trail that leads to the river, you can see over 30 birds of prey (owls, hawks eagles, & falcons) at the center.
For more on the sciences, visit The Montshire Science Museum in Norwich. If you need a fun , outdoor activity, how about tubing down the Battenkill River? Or, on the more wild side, take a ride down the Alpine Slide, or any other activity, at the Bromley Thrill Zone. There is Billings Farm in Woodstock, glass blowing demos at Simon Pierce. Or take a hike on the Long Trail, part of the Appalacian Trail here in VT And, after all that, take a swim at the Weston Rec Center, play tennis there or . . . . hmmmm ??
